NORTHUMBERLAND HILLS CYCLING CLUB

The Northumberland Hills Cycling Club, formerly known as the Northumberland Hills Cycling Community was founded in Spring of 2010 by members of the citizens group Sustainable Cobourg, in response to observation there was a need for a recreational cycling club for cyclists of any skill level. Together, an informal ride was planned for late April of 2010 to see how much interest the group might generate.

The inaugural ride was a phenomenal success. Fifteen eager people of all ages showed up and there was no looking back. What began as an informal group of cyclists meeting weekly for a ride around the Northumberland Hills area soon grew into a group of keenly interested cyclists who enjoyed the casual and recreational nature of the rides. Soon the Northumberland Hills Cycling Community website went live, bringing the cyclists an opportunity to communicate with others and plan routes and rides.

Gravel – Paris to Ancaster

For over a century the roads of northern Europe have been home to the toughest bicycle races in the world. The most famous of these, Paris to Roubaix, takes place each spring over brutal cobblestone roads that have been preserved in their historic condition for over 100 years. Inspired by this classic race, the Paris to Ancaster has taken place since 1994 over the roughest farm lanes, trails and gravel roads we can find. We welcome the largest field of riders assembled in Canada for the Paris to Ancaster 2025. Join us on April 27 2025 to become part of the history of this unique race, Canada's Spring Cycling Classic.

Gravel – Almonte Paris-Roubaix

Like its inspiration, the 34rd Ottawa Valley Paris Roubaix Cyclosportif mixes well paved roads with abominations. The route includes mud, gravel, sand, rocks, unmaintained roads, woodlots and one switchback climb. The classic route is about 80 kilometers. A shorter 40 km is an option for riders and includes 3 woodlots. Note: Riders aged 11 to 16 (turning 11 to 16 in 2025) are eligible to ride only the 40 km route, and must have an adult riding with them, or be in a preorganized group with at least one adult. U19 riders (turning 17 or 18 in 2025) may ride the long course. This is a cyclosportif ride, not a race. The roads are open to other users. All traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs and staying to the right, apply to all riders at all times. Marshals may stop or delay riders for safety reasons. Any rider who disobeys their instructions will be immediately removed from the event. There will be no motorized support, partly because some of the roads are not passable for motor vehicles. We strongly recommend that riders choose cycling equipment for its robustness, not its lightness. Any kind of bicycle may be used, although gravel/cyclocross bikes with large section road tires (at least 28 mm wide) are generally the best choice. Fixed gear bicycles must be equipped with at least a front working brake as is required under the Highway Traffic Act. Tri Bars are not allowed – you can’t go all Ted King here. It is each rider’s personal responsibility to ensure that their bicycle is legal and safe for road use in Ontario.

Join us in Creemore for our truly unique cycling rides. Inspired by the vintage rides of Europe, Turas Mór – meaning ‘Great Journey’ in Gaelic – is a cycling journey on gravel and non-gravel roads through the rolling hills of Creemore. For seasoned riders to first-timers, there’s something for everyone.

Registration Includes:

  • Participation in event & a fabulous day of cycling
  • Local food & drink at designated rest stops along each route
  • Registration kit
  • A fun après ride, back at the Brewery to enjoy a hearty lunch & live music
  • A gift from Creemore
  • Small town hospitality from start to finish

We encourage riders to wear vintage jerseys and gear and to ride on “heroic” bikes made prior to 1987. No vintage bike, no problem, other gravel worthy bikes are welcome!

This is a pre-registered event only. You must be 19 years or older in order to register.
